MAGNet

Modeling & Analytics Graduate Network

Your senior year is almost here. Then what? Graduate studies or work experience?

You can do both with MAGNet. Develop your modeling and analytical skills using real, large-scale data sets. Earn tuition and fees reimbursement while aligning your critical thinking with a top player in American business.

Candidate criteria

  • Acceptable programs of study include Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Actuarial Science, or Economics
  • Desired skills include statistical modeling and/or data mining, data analysis and database tools, computer programming (especially SAS and SQL), and communication/presentation skills
  • Undergraduate seniors preferred; master’s or Ph.D. candidates in appropriate fields of study considered
  • A minimum 3.5 GPA in statistics and math courses preferred

The work

MAGNet members apply their modeling and analytical skills to a variety of business challenges faced by the State Farm enterprise. As a MAGNet student, you tackle real challenges from the business world, work with real data sets, and develop real business solutions.

You collaborate with other interns, Research Center staff, and top State Farm researchers. You provide critical interpretation of your findings and present them to others.

You may even serve as a consultant for Company implementation teams charged with implementing your work. All this while adding valuable experience to your resume and learning more about State Farm career opportunities.

Hours & compensation

Your work schedule is flexible – about 20 hours a week during the academic year and full time during the summer. MAGNet is comparable to a 50 percent graduate assistantship, with proportionately higher compensation during full-time work periods. Some State Farm benefits may also apply.

Timing

You are encouraged to apply before the fall of your senior year. Candidate screening takes place in November-December. If selected and your graduate program begins in the fall, you can start working at the State Farm Research Center the preceding summer.
